Just got my new 8se and before pulling my hair out want to know on connecting to mac.

1. What cabling do I need to the handset to slew with planetarium
2. Which planetarium software works with mac.
3. What autoguiding software I need for mac
4. What autoguiding cables do I need.

I prefer mac option for now. Any help from fellow SE users would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Need help with align as when I do any type of alignment method the scope slews upside down. Is there anything I am missing in the setup.

The alignment says successful whether 1,2 solar or sky align.

I have a Celestron 6SE, which uses the same mount.

I can't help with Mac connections, but as far as alignment goes, here is what works for me:

1. Set up the tripod level. Use a bubble level to get it really level.

2. Make sure you have fresh batteries, or a suitably rated AC adapter. Marginal batteries will cause weird problems. Note that batteries can become marginal at low temperature.

3. Turn on and set the location coordinates and time accurately. I'm in Adelaide, and I've seen the 1/2 hour time zone cause problems for astronomical software and gizmos so many times I just always set my zone for UT (0 hours), and set the time that way. For convenience I have my watch and GPS set to UT. (I'm an Engineer :P).

4. I always use 2-star alignment, as I have found Auto 2-star alignment can have problems on occasions. Choose two prominent stars e.g. this time of year, Alpha Centaurus and Antares.

Do the alignment carefully, and pointing will be good for the night.

Good luck. It's a great scope that is really quick to setup when you get used to it.
