Was up early this morning to image the impact region on Jupiter. The wind shear charts predicted worst possible state and the seeing was poor but at least the sky was clear.

Have very good coverage of the impact position (L1 345 Lat +2) crossing the CM. Have included 1 R, RGB and 742nm IR data set along with an animation of 4 742nm IR data sets. Quite a shame that there is no scar as was with The Bird Strike. My data was captured at low alt, between 31 & 34 degrees.

Thanks for looking

Regards
Trevor

PN; To get the animation below 200 Kb I had to significantly reduce the quality.

Excellent images Trevor. Thanks for posting such a quick followup.

The quality of the images is hard to believe given the altitude and jetstream currently raging. I reckon a scar would have been visible in these images if one was present.

Nice work Trevor. Reckon your seeing was pretty close to what I received on this morning.

Thanks Trevor got up early myself for an eyepiece view with the 16" Dob. Seeing was bad with lots of light hazy cloud.Got a few brief glimpses with an 8mm eyepiece before it all went off. Didn't see anything though.
Cheers Derek

Thanks Ivan, the scar from the Bird Strike would certainly have been visible, it was just so black. Back then I recall seeing it easily in the eyepiece. The seeing for this data was all over the shop, obviously more consistent in IR. I think I was lucky to end up with even one reasonable RGB.

Thanks Asi, guess we all have been feeling the effects of this unrelenting Jet. On a personal note, reckon I am really looking forward to the next Elnino.

Onya Derek, isn't it just great to have events such as this from time to time to stimulate interest and get us all out taking a look. On this occasion it seems there is no scar or debris trail for us to monitor but it really does hi-light just how frequent these events must happen. With so many people world wide now observing and imaging it is surely only a matter of time before someone observes and records a really big one.

Thanks Paul, it really does bring back fond memories of Birds epic visit in 2010, still have the plaque down in the observatory.

Thanks Ray, was fortunate to get this data, certainly has been a lean time thus far this Jup season for us all. Looking forward to better times.

Good image Trevor, it's a shame there is no mark this time
