Did anyone see the meteorite to the northeast of Port Hedland at about 6pm 10/09/12. Best one I have ever seen. It was broad daylight and brilliantly bright with glowing debris streaming off it. After it disappeared, I assume into the Indian Ocean, you could still see a stream of smoke still in the air. Absolutely awesome. I hope others saw it.
Lucky you!!! Has been a long time since I saw a good one like that.
:welcome: to IIS too. :)

Welcome to IIS. You've certainly arrived with a bang - or is that a flash? In 40 years of being interested in astronomy I've never seen a daytime meteor so this is quite a spectacular observation. The International Meteor Organization is interested in this sort of thing so you should consider lodging a report.

I saw this yesterday as well, it was very impressive! I'm reasonably sure there was a second smaller one as well.
I'd love to know exactly what it was but I guess it's impossible to tell.

:hi:Guys and:welcome:to iceinspace:D
You guys are so lucky to see a Daylight "Meteor":eyepop:
A "Meteor" only becomes a "Meteorite" when it has reached the ground.
I hope you stick around and regale us with more great sightings in the future:)
Cheers:thumbsup:
