I don't see the point of the "Beginners Start Here!" thread in the "Beginners Start Here!" forum. It's nearly 200 posts long. New members feel encouraged to post their questions in that thread instead of starting a new thread in that or abother forum. Or was that the idea in the first place? If it was, sorry but I don't think it is good one. I suspect questions would get lot better responses if they were asked in new threads.

The intention wasn't for beginners to start in that thread, but i've seen lately that's what's happened.

The intention was for beginners to start in this forum. :)

I reckon the best way is to split the new posts into a new thread, each time a new member posts there. I'll modify the original post to indicate starting a thread is the best idea.

In any case, the thread has had the right effect - new members have posted their first post! Which gets the ball rolling.

It's and interesting thread though. Almost like a historical timeline of the site. Talk about a trip down memory lane :) A few familiar names in there

 That's what I thought it does to others too, which is why I brought it up.

Interesting..

Received a PM from a newish member last night, who actually said the opposite. Said it was daunting to start a new thread, and found it much more comfortable to post their first few posts in the "Beginners Start Here" thread.

So it serves both, I think, and should stay for that reason. I'll update the first post to give the user the option of doing both.. that is, post in that thread, or start a new thread.

It sounds like the thread is serving its purpose then. I'll keep an eye on it, ready with my virtual scissors to split any new queries into new threads, so scaredees like Davo and I can also reply. ;)

If it's doing the job why not leave it alone?
If it aint broke don't fix it!
