Hello to all

As I have finally had a pier made for my NEQ6P, but before I concrete it in the ground permanently I would like to ask the knowledgeable people of Ice in Space if what I am about to do is the right way to go.

My intentions are:-
1. To use the locating pin from the original tripod.
2. Use Al's Astro Clock set at my longitude at solar noon use the plumb bob and string shadow line technique that I have read about else where in these forums to align the locating pin in the south pointing position.
3. Ensure the top plate of the pier is as level as possible using a spirit level.
4. Once concrete is set mount the NEQ6P and set it to 34 degrees elevation - which is my approximate latitude - and then I should be close to the SCP, then I think I can fine tune using adjustments built into the NEQ6P mount.
Any advice I could receive in relation to this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like you're onto it. Solar noon is the best way for your N\S alignment. Any little deviation for that and Dec can be adjusted for in the mount.
Nice BIG piece on concrete going down I hope ?

im doing the same thing for my G11 Mount. Can anyone tell me if i should put the pole in the ground and put the concrete around it or make up a concrete pad and bolt the pier into the concrete?
