Guys/girls, after using andrews 6mm ep on saturday night and a small chat afterwards, i would like to get a 7mm or 7.5mm EP.
The question is......... no more than $150, what 7 or 7.5mm EP should i look for for my 1500mm dob ?

i like my vixen 9mm but im not sure if they do the size im after...
NO i cant afford :
pentax
nagler or
OU's
Any ideas ??? the TAK 7.5 is a nice ep but the fov is only small....

Let the arguements/debate begin !!!!

Ant

OH i am saving the money for an AN + Encoders and stuff for my 12" too so it wont be a quick buy.

You can get a Vixen LV 7mm from MyAstroShop.com.au for $165.

You didn't specify.

Do you want..

Greater FOV than an andrews 6mm ep ?
Greater eye relief than an andrews 6mm ep ?
Greater sharpness/contrast than an andrews 6mm ep ?

You will have to choose because you want get any more than one of the above for under $150, sorry.

My suggestions:

FOV - Synta expanse (not recommended)
ER - Vixen LV
Sharpness/contrast - UO ortho or Televue plossl.

If you can stretch the budget a little you can go for an Orion Stratus which will be your best bet this side of a Vixen LVW or Pentax XW.

Sounds like you want 60+ degree FOV. Considering your budget, the only option I can think of is a cheap 15mm widefield and a 2x barlow (which will clean up much of the edge aberrations). 15mm GS superview and a GS 2" barlow (maybe ED version) perhaps? The upside is that you will be able to use the barlow with your other EPs, the downside that the 15mm SV will have one ugly seagull infestation without the barlow.

I personally would put up with a narrower FOV and get a a barlow and a good 15mm plossl (not televue though, because it will vignette in a barlow). Or you could get just a barlow for now and use it with your existing 15mm.

Stratus indeed is a very good budget option, if you'd be happy with an 8mm.

I'm with Steve on the Stratus, might be just a tad over your budget but an excellent EP. The Baader Hyperion is the same EP and I think they're available in 3.5, 5, 8, 13, 17 & 21mm.
