Hey guys..

The community is starting to develop here, getting some regular contributions from a few gyus which is great.. There's also a lot of people visiting, but just reading.. not signing up or contributing just yet.. Hopefully they'll sign up soon :)

But how do we get more people here?

The more people we can get to sign up and contribute, the better and more meaningful our discussions will be, the more knowledge from experienced amateurs will mean more of my silly questions will get answered :)

I've spread the word as much as I can on various forums that I visit. I've PM'd aussies/kiwis on CN and UT forums, letting them know that we've got a growing local community here and it'd be great if they came and signed up.. A few have done just that, thanks for coming :)

Maybe you guys can help too.. If you belong to an amateur astronomy club, spread the word and get them to sign up to the forums. Most clubs have forums of their own, but they're usually private member forums only.. These forums are here to cater for everyone in Australia (and NZ of course! :P), from every club and every state.

Amateurs helping other amateurs is what makes this hobby so great. People sharing their knowledge and experiences to make other peoples' experiences even better.

We need to start getting some fresh blood, some people new to the hobby who are too afraid to ask what sort of telescope they should buy, or what all the complex terms mean, what's an equatorial mount, what's eye relief, etc.

If you can help spread the word it'll only help grow this meeting place.

If you've got any other ideas or suggestions, please post them or PM me!

Thanks!

perhaps contact some other web-masters of astronomy pages, and ask them to add a link to this page??
sponsorship is another option but that usually costs money.
Perhaps even contact Channel 7 news? :p im sure that will get the word out.
Ill try to spread the word aswell.

Hi Iceman.
Here is my 2 cents worth.

Why not contact some of the shops that we all spend $ at say one in each state,

See if they would like to place some advertisments on here and see if they will offer a discount to members only. That way they get free advertisment and the members will get something out of it also if they buy from them.

I can contact my local shop here if you wish as they are very good people to deal with.

Thats my lot then.

That's an idea worth pursuing I think.. It definitely can't hurt.

If you want to contact your local shop, go for it! I'll try and do the same down here with Bintel or Andrews or any of the others.

If they want to contact me for any reason, just give them my email address.

Some of the new members from Australia and New zealand have been contacted at CN to see if they want to join, will keep an eye out for any new members and let them know that we are here.

How about a letter to the editor to Sky and Space-asking for a mention in the next issue?

at the least they may just consider publishing a letter to the editor?
