Crested Hawk

These chaps always turn up in winter,feeding on stick insects and tree frogs,high up in the blue gums around the property-harmless to small birds,unlike the collared sparrow hawk that also gets around the same time of year.

Hope this is of interest,taken with a 50D and 400 L series lens,I'll find the settings if needed.This camera and lens just won me first,second and third in an advanced wildlife photography comp,I nearly did not put any entries in,as I knew some people that had 500 and 600 L's were putting entries in the same section and knew I'd be totally out gunned,but the 400 L-the little lens that could!

Little?? It's all relative isn't it? I know after walking around for a couple of hours with mine 'little' is not the word that comes to mind - especially if the birds are hiding and the light is poor like a couple of weeks ago.

My father always used to say that the most important part of any car was the nut holding the steering wheel. Apparently much the same is true of photography - it's the 'nut' (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) holding the camera that matters. You can outdo people with better equipment and I can't match what you do despite having similar equipment.
