Hi all, I dragged out my 8" reflector telescope last night to have a long over due view of the moon, only to be disappointed at a waxy haze through the EP. Today in better light shining my red touch into the tube I notice the primary mirror has what looks like millions of small blemishes or small water marks on it. I removed the primary only to view what appears to be a very clean surface. Tilting the mirror on an angle the blemishes appear to be under the reflection. So my inner voice is saying I'm up for a re-coat! So who does this & will it cost more than the telescope is worth, I have never been down this path before.:eyepop:

Hi Doug,

Can you post a pic of the mirror?
you should still get some good views unless there are dark blotches on the coating.
Also hold it up against a light and look at it from behind. do you see pinholes?
It might be cheaper or not too impractical to get a new one rather than recoat, not sure who does recoats.
