C5 scope @ f/28. Pentax k-r.

I'm more comfortable with deep sky imaging but I think this close up is not too bad.

Not bad Steven. Looks like you're pushing the sharpening to the limit.

The seeing can be terrible during the day compared to night can't it?

I'd recommend you get a bit aggressive with the contrast, maybe stretch your black point down a bit and bring out the detail.

Thanks Al.

This is the first time in years of sporadic solar imaging that I have have taken an image that hasn't been ruined by seeing conditions.

Here is a reprocess with a more yellow Sun look.

Contrast looks better:thumbsup: but it also brings out the "sharpening artifacts".

Am I right that you've sharpened the image pretty heavily? That fine, uniform grain texture looks like a sharpening artifact to me. The larger, more random shades and colours look more like the true surface features. Try having a play with your wavelet/sharpening settings....

You may not be able to get rid of the artifacts entirely. A lot of solar images have some sharpening artifacts... the legacy of trying to extract as much as possible in poor seeing.:)

Yes I have probably been too generous on the sharpening.

I find processing the Sun analogous to processing some nearby galaxies which are on the verge of resolution. Is one observing real detail or processing artefacts or noise?

Anyway here is another version where the sharpening has been reduced.
