Hello everyone,

Here's an image I did of the galaxy NGC 5128 in Centaurus. Again this image is with the new Baader UV/IR cut filter on the modified Canon 300D. You can see how the sky background is close tp black - this is a result of the new filter.

Telescope 12-inch f/5 newtonian telescope
Guiding hand guided with 4.5-inch guide-scope.
Camera Canon EOS 300D Digital - Hα enabled.
Exposures 9 x 90-second exposures @ ISO-800
Total Exposure time 13.5 minutes
Filter/equipment Baader 2" Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector.
Baader 2" UV/IR Cut Filter.
Processing Dark frame subtraction, bias and flat-fielded in Iris,
Photoshop, Noiseware.
Exposure Date 2006, Apr 21.

Hi Paul

Magnificent image. The filter certainly seems to ehance the contrast. It is interesting that you said the background is close to black. I didn't think so by looking at it. So I took some measurements. In fact the background is around levels 20 to 30, with a slight blue cast. Just how you want it to be. Not black at all (that would mean clipped :sad: ).

yes theres a wealth of detail in the dust lane, and some dark globs in the inner halo.
