It is certainly fun trying to make the most out of trying situations:)
I have taken a few of these types of images myself and found it fun and challenging. I can imagine the wind being a real problem with a 12 inch dob.
I found by using the timer and even better still using the laptop to control the shutter really took some blur out of my images.

Yeah, I fully realise I'm never going to match the deep sky photos some of the members here post with the equipment I have. I would one day at least like to capture what I see in the eyepiece (rather than deep long exposure). In any case I'm a father of 2 young children, I work substantial hours, and I simply don't have hours of time (or additional cash) at the moment to spend on deep sky work.

Ironically I do have an EQ4 or EQ5 (not sure which) that I bought about a decade ago and haven't made use of. I got the clock drive fired up again while I was tinkering with the new Dob. One day I'll have to give drift alignment a go. For now I'm taking a look at some of the Messier and Caldwell objects for the first time (now that I have a decent manual az setting circle, a good inclinometer, and locking wheels)
