Took this during a recent trip to the nullarbor desert, its 52 shots at 10 mins a shot stacked with startrails.

Taken using a canon 5d mk III, ISO 400 and f4(best guess) @ 14mm

see here for a larger version (http://www.astro-photo.net/jpg/nullarbor-stacked-startrails_web_large.jpg) as the pic posted to IIS has been greatly compressed to fit size limits!

Cheers,
Grahame.

First astro 5D3 shot I have seen. Very impressive. Lovely colours in the trails.

Interesting how the trails bend back the other way on the right side.
What lens was that?

Greg.

thanks Greg - it was a lens you are well familiar with - the nikon 14-24mm f2.8 :)

Love the composition! The symmetry between SCP and NCP is complimented by the two trees. Very nice and realistic colours too, this has to be one of my favourite star trail shots.

Thanks all :)

Alex - you wouldn't believe how far i had to walk all the gear to those two trees, they were the largest (and only) ones I could see for Klms!

Submit this to APOD, please.

This deserves to be printed big on canvas and hung up somewhere prominent in your home.

Ahhhh - Nikon lens on Canon body explains the f4ish comment.

Very impressive. Didn't realise the divergence at the northern end was due to the NCP - initially I thought it was lens distortion.

I came back to visit this image a number of times - magnificent work Grahame.

What other shots have you got from the area?
How long did it take to drive there? Where did you stay?

This beautiful image is now IOTW (http://www.iceinspace.com.au).

Thanks for IOTW Mike!

I have a few more, will post up later tonight.
Stayed out near Forrest and surrounding region, a decent 4x4 would be needed to go any further, as i found the softroader (late model mitsubishi outlander) i took had its limits :( Drive took 22 hours from perth which was a mission in its self.
Set up tents the whole way and had supplies all planned out for the week. Def something I want to do again, it was such a nice break from the stresses of everyday life.

Yeh a great star trails shot that, usually need to include the SCP to prevent them from being boring but not in this case, the switch from nearly south to nearly north creates a great effect and the subtle colours are beautiful.

Thanks all (again!)

yep submitted to APOD however there is some serious competition there - we will see :)

no aircraft in the startrails shot - they were flying just south of my location and were in all the south looking shots I took.
