Hi everyone, I've been thinking for quite some time that I'm ready to take the next step and mount my 10 inch Sky-watcher Dobsonian on something more substantial and eventually get into some astrophotograpy.

I've been doing a lot of searching and was wondering if any of you know a place which sells the EQ6 pro or NEQ6pro for under $1600, or if not, are there any other mounts out with within a similar price range (or cheaper) that could handle my scope well?

Kind regards,
Sammy

I'm not familiar with Q'land astro-shops, but andrewscom.com.au (http://andrewscom.com.au) in Sydney has them at reasonable prices, cheap delivery and their service is supposed to be very good.

Even the eq6 will have trouble handling your 10" newt well.

I have no probs with my EQ6 Pro and SW 10" Robin.........
May I ask what your reason is?
Cheers

When you look at those images from the 10" on the eq6 in 5 years you'll know why.

:)Its gotta be Andrews , $1699 is a great price .
I have got lots of gear there over the years and the service is second to none .
Oh yea the EQ6 pro will hold your 10 inch OTA easily and solidly no worries there ..

With the standard Vixen dovetail, my 10" GSO (ex-dob) is pretty wobbly on the EQ6 Pro. I have not yet gone the expense of robust 'D' sized from someone like ADM, so I can't comment on that. I went a different path for photography and bought a 2nd hand Equinox ED80 which sits happily on the Vixen dovetail.

I bought my EQ6 Pro (white) some years ago from http://www.telescopeshop.com.au/p/344/skywatcher-telescope-mounts-inc-tripod-eq6mnt-equatorial-to-25kg-payload.html in WA, even though I live in NSW because it was under $1,500, where it was > $2K in the east at the time. I see they are currently $1,595 but the advert implies the black one, so I’m not sure it would be go-to.

It is a bit of a stretch on an EQ6, but it can be done. You really need to have it perfectly balanced, and I would get a new one, unless you find a 2nd hand one that has been hypertuned or similar.
I'd look at putting it on a pier instead of the tripod, the tripod is the weak link IMO.
Brendan gets great results with his, but it does take some work, and you want a wind-free site.

I agree with Peter's suggestions. I use occasionally my 10" f5 newt in a C/F tube, on my NEQ6, but it's on a pier. I also have the Cassidy saddle, and a Losmandy rail. It will work, but it is at the upper end of being comfortably mounted.
