Mine would have to be Metallica's 'Live S***; Binge and Purge" San Francisco gig..
Followed closely by G3's Rockin in the free world (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Yngwe Malmsteen), absolutely amazing virtuoso guitar work..

My favourite varies from week to week.
One thing I can't fathom is why Australians value OS music more than our own, so I'll toss in my favourite Australian titles.
ACDC live at Dodington.
Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs Jailhouse Rock Live at Boggo Road Jail
The Angels This is it folks, live at Latrobe Uni
Electric Mary, Long Time coming live at the Garlic club.
Birtles Shorrock, Gobles, Full circle (not the Little River Band but they sure as hell sound like it)

Aussie one? Can't go past the Sunbury Festival double album 1972
Not so much an album but Pulp live @ Reading '11 is one of my most listened to concerts.

I have a bootleg (oops!) of Led Zep c.1976 in LA which I listen to alot.
And one of Elton John c. 1974 in Vancouver. Ditto.
But by far my fave is "Nirvana Unplugged".Not a bootleg, but, IMO one of the most accomplished and honest performances by any band.
Try it.
You'll like it!

I can only think of 1 live album in my record stack and that is "Queen Live Killers"
I certainly listened to it lots when I was a bit younger.:D
Now my favorite is "The Cologne Concert" by Keith Jarrett.

I disagree. I think our musical tastes say a lot about ... our musical tastes ... but not much else.

Live Rust is a great choice! Love when he is trying to talk the kids down of the lighting towers.... Live at Massey Hall is another great one by youngser.
For me, while heavily produced prior to its release, Nirvana Unplugged is very special.

passion grace and fire was the other..... no where near as accomplished and not live, but still a good album
i also have to agree about nirvanas unplugged..... but the raw high voltage nirvana gave me goosebumps!

Four that come up on my own playlist I enjoy a lot -
"Pictures at an Exhibition" - Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
"In Concert (The Doors album)" - really a double album compilation of live Door's performances.
"801 Live" - Phil Manzanera, Brian Eno, et. al http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFkQ-d0OeEg
"Stop Making Sense" - Talking Heads.
From that album and movie ...

Brian and Davin,
I saw 3G live in Sydney! The Satriani, Vai and Petrucci variant.
They're touring agian, but, this time, instead of Petrucci, they've got Toto's Steve Luthaker.
As for my favourite live album... yikes! Any Led Zeppelin bootleg from the 70s. Favourite show being Fillmore East April 26th (I think), 1969. Unreal. Particularly their rendition of As Long As I Have You. Wow.
A whole bunch of live metal and electronica also makes the list. Too many to name!

dIRE sTRAITS - Alchemy
Best live album of all time I reckon. Amazing versions of Tunnel of Love and Telegraph Road.
Totally agree also with previous responses of Pink Floyd - DSOT and Metallica - Lives..t: Binge & Purge.
I've always wanted live albums from Enya and Massive Attack. Plenty of live bootleg stuff from Massive Attack so I should be happy with that. As for Enya, well I can see her point of view so i'll settle for the studio stuff.

So many its hard to choose so here goes:
Keith Jarret: The Koln Concert, solo piano bliss
Don Ellis: Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 1978, Big Band Bliss
and from Oz
Daly Wilson Big Band: On Tour, Live in NZ
also Miroslav Vitous, Art Pepper....
The best albums are nearly always live, IMHO.
And one last one though not live, but may as well have been , The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1948 recording of Sibelius Symphony no 2, complete with creaking chairs coughs and mistakes.

I notice the OP specified 'album' in the singular but no one can stop at one can they?? "Guilty m'Lord." Then some previous posts have reminded me of albums I'd sort of forgotten. Like "Stop Making Sense". I saw the heads do that show at Narara in '84 so that album brings back great memories (yes I do remember).
So I'll just mention a few great albums that haven't yet been acknowledged. Benny Goodman Live at Carnegie Hall 1938 is a pretty seminal album. Probably the first live album and certainly the first double LP. Having a jazz band at such a venue marked a turning point in the acceptance of that then-new music. If you like big band jazz then wrap you ears around Gerry Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band at the Olympia in Paris 1960. I know and love Goodman, Ellington and Bassie but this is my favourite. Strangely enough another great live album was recorded at the Olympia: Alan Stivell in 1972. His Live In Dublin 1975 is also pretty great.

Ok favourites for me are KISS ALIVE from 1975. The live album that made many realise the true value of a live album, a defining moment in rock album history. And I'm with JJJ here on Frampton Comes Alive from 1976...both albums full of my guitar heroes and coming at a time I was right into guitar as a young 17 year old. So just for you JJJ have a laugh here's me in 1975-76 as a wannabee Framp look alike hehe. Ok so what's changed?
Thanks! I didn't know that and a quick Google suggests that is most probably correct.
It is a great album and movie!
H had mentioned Led Zeppelin Fillmore East April 26th, 1969
and it made me think of Frank Zappa and "The Mothers Filmore East 1971" which I still have a vinyl of.
Peaches En regalia from that album -
