This morning's snow

We had a bit of snow here yesterday, but the following drizzle washed it away. Then last night before we went to bed we got another couple of inches. This morning we woke to this:). Still lightly snowing on and off. The snow didn't slough off the satellite dish till about 10am, so I've only just had internet for a little while.

I was tossing up whether to post these in terrestrial photography or general chat, but I figured most are more just happy snaps, so chat it is.

1. Wallaby tracks around the house. Looking for a bit of shelter maybe?
2. The POD with the snow partially sloughed off the dome. Looks like someone had tried to open it:eyepop::lol:.
3. The view from our front verandah towards the gate.
4. The view from the front verandah across the dams.
5. Wild duck (I guess, or some other bird about that size) tracks down the back path. these tracks went all around the yard too looking for shelter I suspect.:thumbsup:
6. Snow on a rail at the top of the retaining wall.
7. Snow of the PZT of the observatory.
8. Sun disc?:shrug::lol:

Yep.:P You're missing the pictures that didn't upload the first time. I think the satellite link may have been a bit slow due to snow on the dish and I closed the windows before the job was finished or something without looking...:rolleyes:. Should be there now.:)

Sloughing is far better than shedding, although it was degravitating from a Sky 'Shed' Pod. You have a lovely place there Al, quite Christmas cardy.
The first time I saw snow in Australia I thought I'd touched down in an alternative reality. Coming from Northern Pom land I was just expecting a continent of sandy beaches and sharks. (should have gone to WA!)
I watched a docco with a kangaroo hopping through some snow and thought 'What the bloody hell is this?" some sort of sick joke?".
Within a few years of living down here I was actively seeking bloody snow. Shows how your priorities change when Treble Cone is cheaper that Victoria!!

Hasn't snowed where I live in Tassie for a couple of years. Must be all the patio heaters.

I share your tiny twang of home sickness when seeing these snow impressions, graham. real tiny, though. ;)
also, the surprised feeling: Oz and snow???

Al, the wallabies and ducks, they worked together, you know?
together, they rolled away the dome and huddled in there in a cross species party... nothing too exotic, mind. just a cup of snowtea and icicle scones while story telling.

I've been living here for 26 or so years and I'm not sick of the snow yet.:) I know some people that are... but I think they've just forgotten how to be kids!:P

Yeah, sloughing isn't popular in Australian vernacular... it should be be though. "I'm just sloughing down the pub for a while...":lol:



What??? Degravitating? I'd expect it to be floating away!:lol: Too technical for me.:P



Don't mention the patio heaters. I did once, but I think I got away with it. Do it too often you might breach the TOS!:P

I love the look of snow in the aussie bush. At first it just looks wrong, but later I came to appreciate it as unique.:)

Australia is pretty unique as a country. It seems to have most climates. Bit lacking on steppes and tundra maybe...

Great shots must have been wonderful waking up to this. There is really something special about seeing the Australian landscape under snow - maybe because it's fairly uncommon outside of the Snowy mountains. Having said that it seems like you guys have had a few snowfalls this year.

Yeah its fairly typical to get 3-4 snowfalls a year. When I first moved to Oberon the brief I got before I took the position at work was Oberon gets 5-10 snowfalls a year. That was true but things have thinned out a little.

I think its good though. Enough to be a novelty and fun without becoming drudgery.:)

Yesterday I scored new record on my weather station: lowest maximum....

4.2°C!

At one stage I was down to my tee shirt it was so warm inside!:lol:

That's exciting. I love seeing snow and when it's really cold if you can look out side and see snow then everything is right with the world. It should be cold.
