Hi,

Here's last nights efforts, IC 4601 in scorpius and NGC 253 the silver coin in sculptor.
IC 4601 was a challenge, just to get enough data, let alone processing to bring out the background dust.
It was one of those nights where murphy's law was in full force. Cloud coming and going, forgetting to switch on the auto guider! I wasted a few frames on this. Then when I went to image NGC 253 I managed to trip on the main USB cable to the observatory, which screwed up the auto guiding. So I went for 2 minute unguided subs.
IC 4601 is interesting, for want of a better word it's the first white nebula I've imaged.

IC 4601 75 minutes of data in 5 minute subs ISO 800.

NGC 263 30 minutes 2 minute subs.

Darks, flats and bias applied to both, post process in PS.

Cheers,

Justin.

Nice work considering all the trouble you had.

I found NGC 253 was difficult from the suburbs of Melbourne.
I couldn't get the noise out even with lots of subs
which you can see on my flickr photos.

I am hoping to do better with a new QHY10 which I'll get next weekend.

cheers

A good result after all that trouble, Justin!

Thanks Alpal and Rick!

Just checked out your NGC 253 image, you did have a noise problem. Hope your new camera works well for you.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Justin,
watch & see what I come up with using the QHY10 although
I am starting to think that galaxies can only be taken from a dark site.
At least I have a portable setup.

cheers

Thanks Ross!

IC 4601 will need more data and more processing to do it justice.

Cheers,

Justin.
