Jetstream is finally clear over Sydney, first time in 2 weeks!
Had the scope out early, did some DSO imaging (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=9455) while the seeing was still bad.. around 10pm it (the seeing) finally starts to come as Jupiter rises above 50°..
It's been almost 2 weeks since I'd done any imaging, so it took me longer than usual to get it all setup and ready and aligned properly so the planet stayed in the FOV for long enough..
Got 1 avi.. then the clouds came over!
It doesn't look like they're going to move off very soon either :(
Bloody frustrating! Maybe i'll salvage something from that 1 avi if i'm lucky.

Ditto Hobart.
PS Why does the Iceman get to swear when the rest of us plebs don't?

The Jet stream is fast uniform upper atmosphere air movement and really only washes out fine detail.
It's quite possible to have no jet stream and plenty of lower atmosphere turbulence that produces very wobbly images. Or plenty of jet stream and very stable (but slightly fuzzy) images.

Nice and clear here, but the seeing leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe 5-6/10 if I'm lucky.
After much discussion it seems there has been a slight relaxation of the profanity filter.

what a night, during cool down, lovely contrast and cd on saturn, then cloud, then nice views on jupiter, but as imaging equipment plugged in, seeing dropped to 2/10. wait an 1 1/2 hours at 12.30pm, lotsa cloud, but seeing better.....lotsa cloud!.........lotsa cloud
wake up this morning, peek out the curtains and get greeted by earthshine moon, venus right next door and mercury hovering over the glow of sunrise.
just when you think i was going to give it all away in disgust, then i get treated to a lovely sunrise!!!

I had to get up early to work the public holiday today, so it was an early night for me last night! I coming home early from the pub across the street after having one drink to celebrate my friend's birthday, wouldn't you know it! Clear skies! I haven't had clear skies for two weeks! :(
And Venus close to the thin crescent moon were absolutely beautiful this morning!! :)

Got a bit of processing to do this morning :D Jupiter was :P So I took a leaf out of Mikes book and hit the wide field for a few hours. A bit of high smoke around but otherwise a lovely crisp 15 deg night. Looks like our 2 days of winter are on the way

Did the dirty on the Canon Eos 350D last night using the excellent instructions by Ash (http://astro.ai-software.com/articles/mod_350D/mod_350D.htm (http://astro.ai-software.com/articles/mod_350D/mod_350D.htm)). The whole job took about 2 and a bit hours to completes.
I had no plans to test out the camera until tonight, but due to the nature of Melbourne’s weather, it the started to clear and by about 10 pm the clouds had completely gone. So like a kid with a new toy out came the scope on when the modified 350D and the way I when. Test target for the night was the “Keyhole Nebula”, all I can say is “WOW” :eyepop:
(Picture to come late today).
If the weather remains good for the next couple of days, boy am I going to have fun.
