Guys I am checking some of these quality scopes out for imaging.

From what I have read they well out perform any SCT...I find this hard to believe but what do you think.

I know Eddie uses the 6" Mak-Newt but dont see many of these Mak-Cass around probably due to the price of meade & celestron SCT's now a days.

Is their a noticeable difference in performance

Tony very sharp contrasty pictures from these scopes. they offer excellent image quality due to the high quality optics. I only have the M500

The only downside I've ever heard is the longer cool down time due to the thicker corrector plate (vs an SCT), other than that it's always been praise for their image quality.

Very true, but worth the wait.

Hi Tony,
I have a bit of Mak experience, if it is of any help to you.
I would prefer to discuss this off forum though, as I have a few definite feelings about some dealers, and this is not the place to air those feelings.
The Mak concept is a very good one though.
Shoot me an e mail at g.beal@xtra.co.nz

You don't read much about it, but I have seen glowing reports on the 7 inch Meade Mak as well. Apparently it's largely forgotten amongst the others in the LX range but is also a fantastic performer.

Well I have had an Intes MK-67 6” Maksutov for about 5 months.
After having over 15 telescopes this one is one of the best. Its cool down time has never been an issue with me. But I set it up outside and leave it for about half hour then observe. I just love this little scope. If it’s as good or not as good as others I don’t care. The images in this scope are superb. In my Pentax’s super sharp.:eyepop:
In any of my eyepieces it’s sharp.
Now my friend’s 5” Apo beats it in contrast, but not by a long way.:D
The Mak is super portable and rides atop my eq5 very nicely.
In all I cannot rate this scope high enough.;)

Hi Paul,
been about, mostly lurking and checking in occasionally. Busy mostly. But I have been watching from afar.

So is 30 minutes cooldown time sufficient for a mak? I have heard that more was required.

Well I have never had a problem, be it half hour or more.
But I never store my scope near a heater, or leave it in a hot car. I have never timed how long the thing really took to cool down. As I said set up outside do a few things (cuppa etc) then observe.:)
