Every August, the Earth pass through the debris left by our old friend Comet 109P,
aka Comet Swift-Tunnel, resulting in the Perseid meteor shower.

This year, the Earth is expected to encounter the "core" of the Perseid swarm,
where meteoroid concentration is densest, on Aug. 12.
these beautiful paths of light will be brightest from August 11-13, peaking on Saturday night

"Saturday and Sunday nights the moon will be in a waning crescent phase, just look north on Horizon in early hours

I was out last night for a bit and only saw the one before nodding of in the chair outside.
Just practice for tonight really.

Well, I did manage to get out again this year for the Persids.
I was rewarded with 14 in the hour between 4:15 & 5:15.
given our northern declination at 12.2 S it was, as usual worth
the effort with 10 of those 14 being golden sparkles leaving a breif train.

fabulous Ian!! I saw 3 beauties in 30 minutes, but captured a few more with the camera. :)

I got 11 in and hour and a half but the clouds rolled in. Actually it wasn't clouds as much as haze from aircraft.
It made my pics which are already terrible from LP about 10x worse.

I'm already planning a bit better for Leonids, time to go somewhere dark even if it will be the onset of winter here.

Well done Liz getting a few on film, do you simply do multiple wide angle long exposures back to back and hope to get some in ?
I am contemplating weather to get up in the morning again !

Normally I target different areas of the sky with a widish angle lens, and hope for the best. The Perseids I saw, and captured, didnt actually stray too much from Perseus, so concentrated there.

Have never had much luck with this shower before, so will certainly give it a go next year too. :)
