Hi,

Here's one I've been waiting for a while to do, ngc 6960 the fire bird ( Cygnus ).

I love this one, and I'll be gethering a lot more dtat for it. I think it has good potential for my setup.

8 x 5minute subs, darks flats and bias applied, post process in PS.

Cheers,

Justin.

Good work, Justin! It must be pretty low in the sky?

Thanks Richard!

Yes quite low, but still worth a crack at it.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Ross!

Took a few goes to get the nebula in the right position on the frame.

Cheers,

Justin.

Very nice Justin. Subtle tendrils and well composed in the frame. Great result for just 40 mins. I haven't heard the "firebird" name before.

Nice picture, but did you use filters ?
This object is not too far north (decl -32) to see in AU even as far south as VIC it rises enough above the horizon.

Of course here in NL it rises higher but the sky is more light polluted ...
Visually I could see it easily with an 80mm (x500mm) short achromat with a UHC last night.

It looks like a bit like false color.
Last night I took the whole area with a Canon 85mm f/1.8 squeezed to f/.5 a single frame 4 minutes @ 1600 with Astronomik CLS:

I took the 6992 the night before without filters with the EF 300 f/4-5.6L full aperture 2 minute frames stacked, see here the results:

Last night I took also 2 minute frames with filter but I could not get the colors right. Those ugly magenta stars ... :mad2:

Thanks for that!
No filters used, just unmodded Canon 1100D, probably hit he saturation a little hard on the nebula though.

Thanks Graeme!

The firebird name I've seen on several astro image sites, thought a good name for thia DSO.

Cheers,

Justin.

Lovely composition Justin. An object that I will never be able to image from my locale. I like this.
