Hi Everyone,

My apologies up front as I do not know if this causes some greyness in the inceinspace trade policies, but notwithstanding I thought I might post this anyway.

I have two colleagues, they are great people, level headed and calm and truly good people. Unfortunately they have both been touched by Glioblastoma (brain cancer). I don't want to mention their names because I haven't approached them with permission to do that yet.

Anyway, the story I want to tell is of the project manager who works with me. He and his wife were on track to have twins (after much cost and effort). 28 weeks into the pregnancy, his wife was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, collapsed and required emergency surgery. They were able to get the twins out first, who have only just come home safe and healthy. They then operated on his wife to extend her life expectancy. It was not successful, the second operation happens on Monday and is expected to extend her life by a matter of weeks. After that, it's not looking positive.

The cost of the operation on Monday is classified as a voluntary operation as it will not cure her, just extend her life by a small amount.

I am wondering if anyone has any equipment, books, DVDs, anything really that they might be willing to donate in order that a team of people (which we have already put together including www.bta.org.au) may raffle in order to generate some money that can be donated to both the cost of the operation and the care required for the last remaining weeks of care at home. :help:

We have many generous offers from sports teams, people donating their time and resources to help out, but I was wondering if the community here might be willing to help also. I'm very happy to talk about publicity, we were thinking of setting up a facebook page and will be holding a fundraising event at some stage.

Thanks for getting this far in reading and for your consideration if you would like to PM me re any donations of equipment - please, no money though as that requires registration through a charity (who have offered to help but we are not at the stage of setting up with them yet, that will take a few weeks).

Simon.

Thank you Petra and thanks to Andrew also for your generosity. I'll keep the forum updated, we've had a great reception to our requests for help.

We're looking at how best to raffle or auction items and will be hosting an event in Canberra soon.

Simon.

Hi Simon

A small delay on the books - with Border Stargaze in full flight, things have been a little busy. Will send by weeks end.

Cheers Petra d.

No problems at all. Andrew - thank you, the charts arrived today.

My colleagues wife had her operation on Monday, Dr. Teo in Sydney was pleased with the outcome, they are confident it will add years to her life. She is in recovery now, the twins are being looked after by family.

We have the Brain Tumor Association of Australia helping and Beeline Partnerships who will set up our fund-raising event, planned for late October.

I have some box-sets and plenty of other things that might suit, drop me an email (click on my name) and I'll send you a list and you can tell me what you want from it.

Thanks Peter, Have done so.

This morning was a good morning. My colleague's brother-in-law told their story on the Kyle and Jackie O radio show this morning. The outcome of that Huggies, Big W, Fisher Price and a cleaning company offered donations to the cause.

Looks like the publicity is ramping up. We'll have a facebook page up soon.

No problems at all. We're gearing up for a good event at the Helenic Club in Canberra, to coincide with Brain Tumor Awareness Week. It will all be put to good use :)

If anyone in Canberra wants to attend this event, the details are here for booking: http://www.eventbee.com/v/hatstohelp and on the attached poster.

I'm still hoping to get Brian Schmidt to sign some items for auction and am still looking for items to auction at the event (thank you Petra, your donations are being stored safely).

If anyone can suggest what might appeal (apart from...for instance...a full astronomy package worth $lots and $lots which we don't have the funds to source) then that would be gratefully received.

Guys,

Thanks for the help and donations. We managed to raise about $18,000 on the night with raffle sales, donations of goods and services, ticket sales and donations on the night.

Thank you.

Simon.
