Just as we were about to head back to the truck after spending a nice 2 hours under the stars at the Bungle Bungles (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/tag/bungle-bungles), I took one last photo looking back up the dry Piccanniny Creek bed towards the south, with the beautiful Southern Cross setting in the south west.
The bright Moon high in the West lit up the scene. I can’t imagine the water rushing through here in the wet season.
The photo is a 20 second exposure @ ISO2000, f/2.8 with the Canon 5D Mk 2 and Samyang 14mm lens.
Every time I look at these photos from the Bungle Bungles, it makes me want to go back. It’s been over a month now since I was there – I’m so fortunate to have these pictures to keep the memory strong.
You can view all of my Kimberley shots with the Kimberley tag (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/tag/kimberley).

those poor photon receivers on your camera Mike - you must have been giving them a hiding - very nice result

Great shot Mike. A nice use of perspective there. It focuses your attention onto the Milky Way.
Greg.
Magnificent shot Mike!
Where did you end up sleeping that night? Did you go onto the Gorge
or did you doubleback to the car park?

I've been holding off for so long, but, having looked at this a few times, you've convinced me to purchase a 14mm lens.
I'll be placing an order for a Canon 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens in the next week.
Again, this is your best image from the trip thus far, as it is visually enticing; the lines draw the eye in and around the image and make you stop at each juncture to take it all in.
This is what good landscape photography is about!

This is a very unique image. The composition is striking and the foreground isn't merely coincidental to the sky (as is often the case). The whole ensemble of shapes and colours gives this a very alien and captivating look. Hat off to your skill and dedication in chasing these images.
Cheers
Steffen.

Thanks RB! :)
heh I didn't do much of any timelapse so my camera was thanking me for that :) Thanks Dave.
Thanks Greg, appreciate your comments.
Thanks Gary! We ended up heading back to the carpark and drove back to camp. We had 8 of us out at the bungle bungles that night so we couldn't stay.
Cheryl, our guide, slept in the truck waiting for us to return :)
Thanks Dave!
Thanks Greg! Many of your shots were inspiration for me.
Thanks H, appreciate your comments. The moon phase gave great illumination to the surroundings.
I haven't compared the Canon 14mm vs the Samyang - what do the reviews say? You'll love it I'm sure - it's not perfect for every location and every shot, but an UWA can really open up a new perspective on vast landscapes.
Thanks Dave!
Thanks Leon - I sure hope I made the most of it. I think I did. I won't be able to back for many years if ever.
Thanks Deeno!
Thanks Baz!
Wow, thanks Alex. Appreciate you taking the time to come on and comment, we don't see you around here much :)
Thanks Bart :)
Many thank Steffen - some of the landscape out there really is like a lunar or martian landscape. So beautiful.
I'm fortunate to have been able to capture it in a unique way.

Hi Mike,
I'm not sure what the differences are between Samyang and the Canon (I haven't looked it up, and, I'm sure there's many reviews and comparisons). But, having the DLO module in DPP will take care of any weaknesses in the corners as well as chromatic aberration and any pincushion/barrell distortion that may be present. I don't mind spending the money, even if the differences are minor. I prefer sticking with vendor lenses.

Thanks Colin!
Can't wait to see your latest from Chile.
Thanks mate - quite right. The trip has certainly transformed my portfolio, but it's also given me a new motivation and new inspiration and I look at my photos a bit differently now. It's just what I needed.
But yes - location location location! Just amazing places. I wish I could travel for photography more!
