Unfortunately one of our long-term IceInSpace members, Vincent Miu (cookie8) passed away in late May, after a 2.5 year battle with cancer.
Vincent had been a member of IceInSpace since Dec 2005 and had come to our central coast meets and was at every IISAC event until his health was not good enough to come.
His photography improved steadily over the past few years and I'm sure one of his highlights was receiving a highly commended in the 2009 Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50003&highlight=cookie8).
One of my most vivid memories of Vincent was at IISAC2008, after having terrible weather, I woke up on the Sunday morning hearing Vincent tinkering near his tent. This was from my report of IISAC2008:
My deepest condolences to Vincent's family.
This photo was taken at IISAC2008 by RB.
Oh no, that is terrible news!! I didnt know he had cancer, but at least he is not suffering now.
Vincent was involved in a broad range of threads across IIS, RIP.

Yes this is sad news indeed, it must be a hard days in the Miu family, I hope they get through it and can continue with life without too much pain.
Another reminder that we are all mortal, so should enjoy our time here as much as possible and keep problems and issues in perspective where ever we can too :)

I had been dreading this news since I met Vincent for the first time some months ago when I bought an item from him. He was clearly then an unwell man.
Thank you Mike, for letting the community know the sad news.
He'll be waving back to us when we are next observing. Perhaps we mightn't notice.
My deepest sympathies to Vincent's family.

That is terrible news. I also recall him saying he wasn't too well. My condolences to his family.
I was deeply saddened to learn of Vincent’s passing last week.
I spoke with his son last weekend, who confirmed Vincent was quite attached to Iceinspace and had many friends here.
While not well for some time, Vincent deteriorated rapidly.
He will be sadly missed.

Only a couple of weeks ago Joe and I were wondering of he was ok as we hadn't seen any sign of him on IIs.

I recall asking him advice on DSLR's some time ago outside IIS and he was very helpful with his replies and advice.
RIP.
I went to Vincent's house a few years ago to sell my shroud. Although I only met him as an acquaintence, I'm very sad to here his loss. I know he wasn't well after reading it from a previous posting, but to read his passing away has really shocked me. He wasn't that old.
Just terrible.
Condolences to the family. I hope you rest in peace Cookie.
