View Full Version here: : Moon - hand-held at 1,200mm on OM-D

Olympus OM-D E-M5 and Nikkor TC-TC300 2x Tele and Nikkor 300ED f/4.5 from 1979 - giving a combined effective focal length of 1,200mm. Live view magnifies to 14x, so manual focus is an absolute dawdle.
This was HAND HELD, leaning against the side of my house. In-body 5-axis image stabiliser logic was set to 1,000mm (longest). This is also a 100% crop - straight out of the camera. I think I've found my solar eclipse kit.

Looks awesome for handheld and no sharpening!

'Mazing Al. I could see the image jittering in the viewfinder with my slight movements, but the IS just locked on to it on depression of the shutter button. Fan-flippin-tastic. :D
I'm thinking that when I get the remote next week it'll be even better on a tripod. No mirror slap either.

Very impressed with the results you continually obtain with the OM-D!
Been seriously considering upgrading my much loved D200 but, having a capable camera that is not such a chore to haul around, particularly when out and about with the family is very appealing. Also like the unobtrusive way these mirror-less cameras it can be used. And I can still play with the DSLR when I want to play photographer.
Wish the Nikon 1 V1 had faster lenses, not in the same league as the OM-D, its smaller chip and relatively slow lenses strangle its capabilities somewhat but, is considerably cheaper and has had some favourable reviews by those that have actually used it.
Thanks Chris

They are pretty stealthy Deeno. The shutter has to be heard to appreciate how quiet it is. It's less than a half the volume of my 5D-II's shutter noise. At 9fps it still sounds quiet.

Great review Rally, thanks. Once you get past the 90 seconds of drivel, he does show it pretty well. A six second hand-held shot -pretty special!!! The second video really shows how good the OM-D's video is compared to the full-frame Nikon.

Thanks Ric & Marc. I'm still waiting for an opportunity to mount it at prime focus on a polar aligned scope. Not sure what results I'll get, but hopefully something usable.
