I am looking into the pros and cons of the portable systems for the total eclipse in cairns and I am now confronted with a big sticking point – load capacity! I am thinking of this for a dual camera/scope setup (the 60mm double stacked lunt and the dmk41 and a canon 60D with batterypack and 70-200 L lens and KB3 ball mount.). all needs to pack up for a plane ride ;)
I have the polarie and the Astrotrac – both are the tool of choice for a specific use, with the astrotrac being limited to a 1h40m window but can handle up to a 200mm lens ok, and the polarie to a widefield camera setup and only a 2h with normal batteries but I have tested with lithium and can get just over 4hours in the one sitting.
Also being that far up north do you get to see octans – ie would a polar scope be handy?
