These two shots are from our 2 night stay at the stunning Cape Leveque (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/tag/cape-leveque) during my Kimberley (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/tag/kimberley) Photographic tour.

The first shot is a self-portrait with the southern part of the milkyway setting into the Indian Ocean. It’s a 30 second exposure, so I had to try to stay completely still for 30 seconds Not as easy as it seems!

The foreground is illuminated by the 50% Moon, setting in the West over the ocean (which I was staring at!).

The next shot was from night 2, and was taken just a few minutes after the brilliant shooting star blazed across the sky (http://www.mikesalway.com.au/2012/07/18/incredible-shooting-star-and-the-milky-way-over-cape-leveque/).

It was taken much earlier in the evening, before 7pm when the milky way was still rising.

Both shots taken with Canon 5D Mk II, 30 second exposures with a Samyang 14mm lens, f/2.8, ISO 3200.

Thanks for looking.

God I love that location  Great work again Mike. I know full well how hard it is to stand still for 30 seconds. It certainly helps if you have something to lean against or sit down.

Hi Mike

Excellent photos. I couldn’t help but wonder if a shot of you sitting in a rock niche, or hollow, would also have worked? Your stance and angle in the 1st photo complement the small outcrops either side of you.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Greg!
More coming from Cape Leveque.. and then there's the daytime shots! :)
The skies were so dark, never seen anything like it.

ROFL! Thanks RB! :)

Thanks Al :)

haha I keep looking at the shadow behind me in that pic - it looks like a shadow looking backwards! :)

Thanks Dennis! I had a couple of others where I climbed up on the rock but they didn't look as natural, or sometimes I looked too hidden.

You won't believe this - just a few 10s of metres further north is a rock sillouete of a face with a nose just like your shadow nose! I have it on my iPhone!

Great shot. The shadow really grabs you.

haha thanks Dave, but my nose was straight in that shot? :)

Thanks Adam :) A few shots I had to throw away because I moved too much. Harder than it seems!

haha I wondered what was causing that shadow. It looks like my shadow is looking away behind me :)
Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks Stephen! You'd have fun doing some star trails there!

Many thanks for your feedback!
