Phil,

That is awesome. Quite easily one of the best shots I've seen of this object. So many times, the red of the hydrogen alpha saturates the image and you can't get a feel for the object. You've captured it so that I, at least, can make out the shape of the object.

Superb!

Welcome to IIS!

Humayun

:welcome: to IIS Phil! How did you hear about us?

That's a marvellous shot - I bet you get some nice skies up in Rocky.

Bird (Anthony Wesley) from Canberra is one of Australia's best planetary imagers, and he's going to Rockhampton next week for a week or two for some Jupiter imaging.. he's determined it's the best place in Australia for planetary imaging, due to latitude and lack of jetstream!

Hope to see more contributions from you!

wonderfully dark background! so many prople try to catch the maximum amount of gas and end up washing the image out in red.... you have given sooo much detail there! thanks for sharing it.
it's a bit of a benchmark for others i think :D

PM me Phil and I will reply sending my email address so you can send me a larger picture if you like and I will put it on the web for you thats if it suits you.
I am sure a larger picture will do it more justice.

I would like to keep up with this but I'm afraid my canon 20da will not out perform a dedicated ccd that cost around $15,000

It is not about keeping up! It is about doing the best we can with our available equipment. I really think that perfomance envy has no place anywhere. It is a bit like golf, you are playing yourself against your last game.
I personally think it is fantastic if someone else can do better than me. Should we deride the young because they have better vision? I thought not.
