There are certain scenes, moments, and feelings in life which linger on in your memory. Like catching the eye of the one you fall in love with, the first kiss, holding hands and watching the sunset, hearing the first piece of music send a chill down your spine, which then forms your favourite band, musician, or genre. These are the types of things that stay with you the rest of your life; things you can look back upon and smile with a light heart.

My life's goal is to capture precious light -- whether it be in the form of photons that have potentially travelled millions of years to fall upon my camera's sensor from the most distant celestial wonders, to the light that travels 8 minutes from our own star, to strike the Earth in the guise of a beautiful sunrise -- when I do capture something special, it lingers within me and leaves a lasting impression.

The scene below was captured after 3 days of waiting for the right light. I feel very lucky and blessed to have been able to witness (and, experience) one of the, if not, the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen, at one of the most remote, primal and pristine places left in the world -- Milford Sound.

With the soft light illuminating the clouds from the western horizon to the east and to the south behind me, in a gorgeous pink, it is something that I will never forget.

The 5D Mark II remains a landscape eating machine.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
6s f/16.0 at 35.0mm iso100

This is a capture from my second last trip (9/11).

I've left a large version here (http://users.tpg.com.au/octane2/ttimr.html) available temporarily.

Comments, critique, etc., most welcome.

LOL is that the locness monster in the lake in the background. H try to post up a larger image - the ones you post are like a postage stamp - had to use a magnifying glass. Nice colours and reflections

Outstanding H, I really like this image, probably one of your very best. The light is perfect and the composition is fantastic as well, there is something exciting to see everywhere. The two boulders in the water are a nice plus, and of course there is... Stirling Falls in the distance :) Very well done, thanks for the view.

Great shot Humi. You were in the right place at the right time and were prepared!

This is the same vantage point as your black and white image you recently posted?

Awesome H .. can totally see how that experience would leave its indelible mark in the way you describe so brilliantly .. That is a great landscape .. I have had one of those experiences this week but alas not reproducable .. potentially a real life changer .. certainly a memory its poignancy forever etched.

David,

You're the second person to pick up on that. Well, third, if you include me saying the exact same thing while I was standing there.

I did post a large image! It was 1280x on the longest edge. I've since reverted to the usual 800x on the longest edge.

Cheers!

Deeno,

Thanks, mate!

Ric,

Glad you like it. :)

Rolf,

w00t, w00t! I also feel it's among my best. I'm just so happy that the filters saved my butt by capturing the fine detail and colour in the clouds. The warming polariser also helped add a bit of saturation, which means I don't have to mess about too much in post.

Marc,

Thanks, mate!

Mike,

Thank you. :D

Lester,

Cheers, mate!

David,

:D

David,

I got lucky that morning. After 3 days, I was getting fed up of it either being overly overcast, or crystal clear. Patience is a virtue! :D

Greg,

Thanks!

And, right you are -- this is the coloured version of the black and white one you saw earlier. :)

silv,

Ah -- nice! ;)

Jeff,

Appreciate you looking and leaving a comment, mate. Would love to hear about your experience, too.

Rob,

Thanks, mate. Glad you liked it! I like adding a few words to the images I post, no matter how cheesy or corny they may be. It's just a part of the process. I don't like posting images without any backing story or detail. It adds something of the photographer to the image once some words are added.

Larry,

Thanks!

Chris,

Appreciate your very kind words!

Thanks, to all that viewed and commented. :)

Wow, spectacular capture of a beautiful spot. A nice contrast between the warm colours of the sky and coldness of the mountains & water. Very nice shot :thumbsup:

Fantastic shot Humayun.

My mother was a keen photographer and in 1971 we went there for a holiday she used Fujichrome ,Agfa CT18 and others, however the Kodakchrome ones appear as they were taken yesterday with colour like your great image.

Cheers Mark

Greg,

Those are some very, very kind words. Thank you, very much.

Adam,

Thanks, mate. It is definitely something I'll never forget. I hope to return in November and try again a bit later in spring.

Mark,

Cheers!

I can only imagine how they look on Kodachrome! I didn't have my Mamiya RZ67 Pro II with me that trip so didn't get to take any images. I took it with me this last trip, with some Velvia 50, but, there wasn't really any good light to speak of, so, took a bunch of pretty average images. Still, looking forward to getting them developed.

Shelley,

Thank you. You're not so bad, yourself. :P

Thanks again, all.
