Just a bit of a test really. This is taken with one of Nikons sharpest lenses. The 135mm F2 DC lens is very sharp and reknown as being a great portrait lens.
I am planning on using this lens with my QSI683 to do wide field imaging. The lens has its flaws and the worst being its colour correction is just a tiny bit out. However it is very renticular and very flat.
This image is slightly cropped but is about 40% sampled down. The D3 is not the best camera for doing DSO work, but I am waiting some parts from the States to use it on the QSI.

Another splendid image Paul, really like your stuff, well done indeed.

:) Shooting wide field is such a pleasure isn't it.
Looking forward to seeing what else you'll be pointing that lens at.

A lot of the Red nebula is missing Paul, is that the lens?

Thanks guys.
Robin, the red neb is outside the area but is most likely the filter in the D3 preventing it shining through.

Hi Paul,
Very nice shot of that piece of sky  it's one area that seems to attract us a bit like a magnet and well worth letting it pull us in.
I have a 135mm f2.8 Pentax lens with very similar characteristics as your f2 lens and it would be one of the sharpest I have but alas that little bit of colour fringing lets it down for astro work the same.
I also have a Limited edition 77mm that I want to use on that same bit of sky if only you'd stop sending those jolly clouds over here from SA :P
Thanks for showing

My Bad, I read it as 135mm F2 Lens on a QSI.
Looks like Wild Turkey Honey makes you diplexic :P

That's a great FOV for the target. I'm also looking forward to results from the QSI!
Cheers,
Rick.

A great looking photo Paul.
The Nikon lens shows amazing quality and has a great FOV for widefield shots.
Ross.
