Replacement for phillips head secondary tilt screws

Hi there

Looking for advice re replacement of the three secondary tilt screws. I am concerned about possible burring and would like to go hex instead. Info needed:

where to get the replacement screws
things to be mindful of when I do replace

Yes,Yes and Yes to your three questions.

Where to get the replacement screws - there should be some type of business in Albury who specialise in nuts and bolts. Take one of the original bolts and they should be able to match it with a Hex bolt.

Things to be mindful of when I do replace - removing and replacing the bolts should not be a problem. You just need to do one at a time. I would recommend that you remove the rough edges from the bass of the thread. Also round the bass of the bolt so that it will turn smooth and not cut into the bottom of the secondary.

Should I replace - Yes, phillip head screws can be easily burred, the hex bolt will not burr and collimation will be easier.

If you can not find a suitable source for replacement Hex bolts you know who to call.

Petra, fwiw, perhaps some 'Allen headed cap screws' would be better. More positive than hex or phillips head... Can get 'long series' allen keys too..
Totally agree re; the smoothing of the ends of the screws too before replacing. :D L.

When you do get the allen headed driver, don't just lean over your scope to collimate it with the driver in your hand, should you drop it you will most certainly (according to Murphy) drop it on your primary! Drill a hole through the handle, and place a lanyard or shoestring through the hole and tie a large loop. Place this over your wrist before you collimate and should you drop the driver it will just hang in space.

Hi Petra, I've been in contact with Bob from Bob's Knobs in the U.S. He's just about to release a set of Primary and Secondary collimation knobs for the LB scopes.
Once you have your secondary properly lined up it's unlikely to need recollimation unless you pull it apart or it receives a severe hit, so you shouldn't need these.
You should only need the primary knobs.
Bobs done all the hard work for us and it will mean less running around for you. With the price of petrol now it's a good idea.
