canon mod in oz?

hello members does anybody know if there is somebody in oz that does the proper job on the canon astro mod?

Hi Pat,
There was one member (Eric, aka Ezy Styles) who did them, but he hasn't posted for a while and his website is down, so don't know what happened :shrug:.
What are you looking at getting done? Just remove the filter or a filter replacement?
There are two overseas companies that do them: Central DS in Korea http://www.centralds.net/cam/ and Peter Tan from Hong Kong http://www.tan14.com/Baader.htm
Both of them offer modding if you supply the camera. Their prices vary depending on your camera and replacement filter required.
I ordered a Baader BCF filter for my Canon 40D and will have a go at doing it myself via this tutorial http://www.lifepixel.com/tutorials/infrared-diy-tutorials/canon-40d-ir

that is very interesting, but basically was wondering if the 60d body could be modified to the specifications of the 60da
there seems to be about a $600 difference between the two, so i was wondering:
1 if an aftermarket mod is at least just as good as the canon supplied 60da and
2 how much could you save with an aftermarket mod done in oz or elsewhere for that matter

If its a 60d v 60da, I am leaning towards 60Da, for the following reasons:
1. It's a dedicated camera (therefore preserves manufacturers warranty).
2. The inside of the 60Da is designed to minimise thermal/amp glow. This means you may not need to cool the camera for optimal performance, whereas a modded DSLR would need cooling to minimise amp glow and optimise image for long exposurs and long sessions.
3. You can always get aftermarket clip in filters which will not affect the warranty and still achieve what you are after (OIII etc).
That's just my thoughts only, others might disagree.

thanks bo i did not realise that about the cooling.... probably puts a different complexion on the 60da for me!

It was also claimed that the 60Da's sensor is a lower noise unit than that supplied with the 60D's, my guess is it is the same sensor used in the 7D's
The 60Da also comes with genuine Canon AC adaptor (ACK-E6), which is ~$200, making the Da ~$400 price difference over 60D

ah simon that is also very interesting...... i notice you have one in your signature, how did you procure yours?
if i can get one locally but it has come from say hong kong, what difference if any would that make, for instance warranty, and would it still have the genuine canon adapter etc.?

I got mine locally from an authorised Canon dealer for $1649 so no idea about grey imports sorry.

lol can you back that up with fact or bs rumor, as far as i've read it the same dam unit with an ir cut replacement.
