AR1520 - the source of the coronal mass ejection that will hopefully yield some Auroras over the weekend is visible through eclipse glasses.

If you missed out on seeing the Transit of Venus, it's sort of similar in appearance to the unaided eye.

It was mentioned in a S&T update via email this morning, and amazingly I can actually see the sun in Brisbane.

Cheers for the heads up. I just had a look through the PST - it's huge.

Thanks for that David. Just had a look through the 7x50 I used for the Venus transit, with solar film taped over the ends.

I missed out on the venus transit. So this is great compensation.

Simply stunning.
Does anyone know if nsw will be able to any auroras?

Also had a sneak peak with the eclipse glasses. Looked to be slightly smaller than Venus to me.

David, didn't the sun peek through just in the nick of time!
It was glorious to sit out in the sun after 2 wks of rain and do some solar observing. I also got bitten by 2 bull ants while doing so- grrrrr daytime observing!

It was really windy though, the telescope was shaking madly and it felt like my head was shaking with it, probably was.
Yes, I had a look through the eclipse shades as well- quite prominent!

I was sitting in the back seat of the crew truck at work, driving through Canberra the other morning (Friday) and the mist/fog dulled the sun down to the point that I looked at it and went...LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT SUNSPOT!!" Nobody else in the truck was interested.....

I was a bit sad about that.
