Hey All,

it's me again :o

My newtonian turns to the left(east) in the upper axis RA - in park position. That's where the RA motor hangs (it hangs above the "hinge" on which the upper part rotates) , the focuser, the finder scope and the red dot finder.
If I twist the tube so that all the optical assistants are nicely on top of the scope the axis is stable during initial balancing.
But of course, then I can't do star aligning properly because I can't look through the focuser onto stars closer to the horizon.

Good balancing is a must for my piggyback imaging as it affects the motorized tracking.

How do you work around this on your newts?

hmm. no answer.
possibly, balancing is a reason why newts are not recommendable for AP.

okay. :hi:

check the following link,it mentioned how to balance Newtonian. I had the balancing problem with my 8" Newtonian but after reading this it solved the problem. The problem with Newtonian for AP is you can't set the focuser the way you want. It will be good to have rightangle finder.

What mount are you trying to balance it on? Maybe stick some counter weight onto your tube to counter act what ever is taking it ff balance.
