It's with sadness that a few weeks ago, Paul [1ponders] decided to hang up his moderator hammer.

Paul had been a moderator on IceInSpace for many many years, and decided that he needed to have a break from it given his reduced time in front of the computer in the past 12 months, and really just to rest :)

I really want to thank Paul for his dedication and support of IceInSpace over the past 6+ years. He's been a great friend and between him and the other moderators, we've had some amazingly fun times, despite the occasional stress :)

Being a moderator is a sometimes very stressful job, usually with little thanks or reward, and it takes a special kind of person to commit their time to a community like Paul and the other moderators did and still do - with nothing in it for them except to see the community thrive and be successful.

I really appreciate the job all the moderators do and thank Paul for his support and friendship.

Enjoy your time on the 'outside' and don't forget to use the 'report bad post' button ;)

Knowing something of that "thankless' role as I do, 6 years of service is an outstanding achievement. Well done and good luck.

Thanks Paul,

And Mike, I'd like once again to thump the tub for a female mod. I have no idea who might agree, but it would be a good step I feel.

Cheers

The best moderator is the best 'person' for the job, regardless of gender.

I'm not discounting it, just saying that gender is not a factor in choosing a moderator.

Thanks everyone. It has been a very long time Mike and while I can say its not always been pleasurable, its always a pleasure. ;) Thanks to you Mike, and Phil, John, h0ughy and Andrew. And of course my great mate mojo for sending me things to break. :D

Cheers guys, a great and fun bunch of guys to work with even when we're serious.

Oh that won't happen, I don't think I'll ever get it out of my blood. :D But I'm relaxing just a little. ;)

Just a question, as Mike said gender is of no importance, but actually how is a Moderator chosen, i would really like to know.

Dose it have regard to threads, posts, been good, bad, etc, I would be really interested to know, however if this is not for open discussion, so be it.

I'd like to add my thanks to Paul, we shared the trials and tribulations and a lot of laughs on the inside, I must to admit thinking more that once over the past few weeks that the "inside" is now a little empty without that extra voice.

Paul may be out of the inner circle but his bad post report count is already impressive.

Enjoy your retirement Herr Ponders.....:P

Thanks so much for all the effort in the few small years I've been "about" Paul. I frequently wonder how the heck moderators find the time and energy to do such a largely thankless job. So, great to some "thanks" being thrown around. True gentleman online and off!!

(and it'd still take me over an hour to get polar aligned I think if I hadn't met you at Ron's all those years ago :D )

Paul,
It has indeed been a pleasure learning the ropes from you and your friendship is valued:thumbsup:. Many of the folk on here really don’t know what goes on in the engine room:help:, but the ship keeps sailing along:rofl:, thanks to your hard work and tutoring;). You have held the helm at times by yourself:eyepop:, and at other times gone through the cyclone rocking and rolling with the rest of us:scared:. I hope that your imaging has indeed increased at the ponderosa :stargaze:and I look forward to catching up at Astrofest.:astron:

Paul, it's been my privilege to be working with you over the years here and to have you as a friend.
When I first became a moderator you helped me in so many ways and you taught me a very important truth that will stay with me forever, and I am so greatful you did.
I call it Paul 1:1 -
"It's none of my business what other people think of me"

I haven't been around much lately, as you know, due to health and other reasons but I was saddened to hear that you 'retired' from moderator.

It won't be the same without you in there but I'm glad you're still here.

Enjoy youself mate, clear skies and I look forward one day to see you again at the star parties my friend.

I don't post much at all these days, for various reasons.

I thought I'd come out of 'exile' to say best wishes and thanks to you Paul.

Websites and forums need more of the Ponders 'touch'.
