Nicely captured, but I have never seen sun dogs that shape before. The sun dogs that I've seen look to be 180 degrees apart and are the bright spots that lie at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock on a circle surrounding the Sun. What you observed seems to be curved outwards wrt the Sun.

Great pictures Dave the camera has picked these up really well ,it was hard to see clearly with the sun so close ,but there were so many just appearing right before us in such a different cloud formation as well

I saw an email recently where they call this a 'fire rainbow'. Never heard it called that before but I know it is rare. Nice shots and congratulations on catching it!

Brilliant capture David. Sun-dog looks good, very colourful, as does the halo, but that Circum-zenithal arc is something special. Anne-Louise and I saw one several years ago, and any time we see some high altitude clouds like that we hope to see a sun-dog and always look up to see if there is a CZ arc.
Thanks for sharing.
