Hi All,

late in the afternoon of June 26th the call went out from John Rogers for amateur visible light data of Jupiter for June 26th, 27th & 28th. Glenn Orton's team from JPL would be capturing data with NASA's IRTF (Infrared Telescope Facility) from the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii and comparison visible light data was needed.

June 26th, I was able to capture data in clear conditions at very low alt ranging from 16 to 20 degrees. It goes without saying that the seeing was poor and the data low res however detail relating to the chaotic state of the NEB & NTB was apparent. The most intense state of activity is not planet wide but seems confined to the region preceding the GRS and just following the GRS.
I have attached 1 RGB & 1 807nm IR data set along with animations of 3 RGB & 4 IR data sets. The animations, especially with low res data, really do help in picking up on the detail.

June 27th, my window of opportunity at the moment for Jupiter is from 6am to 6:30am local, this coincided with the arrival of the leading edge of quite a large cloud mass associated with an approaching low pressure trough. I was lucky to get any data at all and only found two gaps in the cloud large enough to capture rgb data sets. Have attached 1 RGB & 807nm IR data set along with animations of the 2 RGB & 2 IR data sets.

June 28th, the prediction for 6am local was clear but when I hit the deck at 5:30am it was cloudy and remained so through until Sunrise.

Several amateurs around the world were able to supply data in support of this professional imaging effort from Hawaii and the reports that come from it will be most interesting. More & more research groups are seeing benefits in integrating amateur data into their research which has to be a good thing for amateur astronomy in general.

Thanks for looking
Regards
Trevor
