EQ6 Altitude.

As its been cloudy lately, I've been playing with the mount indoors just to build up a good knowledge of all its knobs and the like to get it completely in memory (for some reason i like releasing the counterweight shaft knob in the dark.)

One thing I'm wondering though, is just how stiff should the EQ6 be in altitude adjustment with both screws removed and unloaded with no scope or CW's?

The Altitude tension is set by three grub screws located under the plastic covers on the sides of the mount. With care you can remove the plastic covers (they are glued on) and replace the grub screws with adjustable knobs. This allows you to reduce the tension and allow easier altitude adjustment. When you have it set correctly you can then tension up the three screws.

My EQ6 is the same. Very tight with Alt adjustment. I found that if you back off both bolts and move it manually making sure you are a little higher than needed, then use the top bolt to move it down a fraction. Trying to use the bottom bolt to lift the head it too hard.
The theory is if you are using the mount from the same location you should only have to adjust Alt once, but when alighing with programs like Alignmaster, you do have to adjust Alt each time.

Reviving this thread as its following on.

Finally got annoyed enough at the altitude adjustment after the head not moving even with both bolts loosened and counterweights attached i dissembled the altitude adjustment and cleaned, re-greased and adjusted the pressure on the plate and now smooth as silk.

Though i do need to make up a new name plate since that cracked due to so much glue.
