Hi all,

Saddly the sale of my little table-top dobbie wasn't able to happen. The intended use of this fellow couldn't be fulfilled as carry-on laugage in an aircraft, much to the regret of both Suzy and myself (there is no ill-will between us over this either, :hi: Suzy!). So it is up for sale again.

~xXx~

The Dob mount is made from 12mm Exterior Grade plywood and painted with Bondall Moncell Marine Grade Varnish. Azimuth bearings are Teflon and textured laminate, and the Altitude bearings PVC and Teflon. Both the PVC and laminate have been waxed and the motion of the Alt. and Az. bearings is very smooth.

-:-
The Underside of the Ground Board has non-marking plastic tipped Feet. The Centre Bolt of the Ground Board has a Nyloc nut to regulate the "squeeze" between the Rocker Box and the Ground Board.

-:-
The Altitude Bearings have been designed to allow the use of any sized eyepiece and not create a balance issue. You can swap between a Tiny eyepiece and a Big Bugger and the OTA does not tip from the weight change.

-:-
The OTA is a Tasco 114X500, with 1.25" focuser and adjustable Red Dot Finder. Both the Secondary and Primary mirrors are Fully Collimateable. Both mirrors are in excellent condition, with the Primary having being Center Spotted for optimal collimation purposes. The tube of the OTA does have some marks from its previous incarnation, but these are cosmetic.

-:-
This is purely an RFT (Rich Field Telescope). Views through this little scope are lovely. Makes for an ideal Grab'n'Go scope.

-:-
Comes with a 25mm Plossl and a 10mm MA pair of eyepieces if required.

-:-
Asking for $220, neg.. Scope is located in Sydney. Can be freighted but at purchaser's expense.

-:X:-

That is a great piece of workmanship Alex - what a nice scope (compliments on the formatting for the advertisement too!)...and I'm not familiar with the 'Big Bugger' brand of eyepiece but would be willing to test them if ever I come across such ;-)

:( I was so sad have to let this go- this is such a fine telescope and a whole lot better than the ones you can buy in the store, plus the sturdiness of the mount would have supported my heavy premium eyepieces very nicely. But I needed to have a grab'n'go scope to accommodate all scenarios, and alas after getting the measurements from Alex, I worked out it wouldn't fit in the hand luggage compartment of a plane (as they're quite narrow), grrrrr. :(
Great for the kids too (which I had in mind as I have some little cousins & nieces).
Again, Alex I apologise for the inconvenience- whoever buys this is in for a fine grab'n'go scope I'm sure.

I've had another inquiry regarding making a dob mount for an existing OTA - yes I can! is the short answer.

I can make the mount fully assembled, painted & with waxed bearings all ready to accept your OTA, or I can make it "flat pack" to make freighting easier. The design of the rocker box cut-outs can also be customised.

If you are interested just drop me a PM.

Scott, no problem.

hi,

how often (if at all) would this need to be collimated?

and how heavy is the entire scope and mount?

cheers

Hi DJDD,

Frequency of collimation is not at all or as often as you want. For some folks, collimation is never an issue, yet for others yes. If you are not too concerned then you really don't need to worry. If you would like to squeeze every single photon you can out of it you have every capacity to do so. It wouldn't hurt to tweek the collimation every once in a while when you remember. Doesn't need to be laser quality either. Just knowing what to look for and eyeballing the process is enough.

I weighed this fellow tonight. The whole unit as you see in the pics comes in at a neat 5kg. Certainly doesn't feel like it to my surprise, :)

What an incredible offer :eyepop: Just think of your own steam punk stylised table-top dobbie. The envy of all! Makes me wish I had one just to display
