I am looking at buying a secondhand lx90. It is a 2003 model, how does this model differ from the latest model. What problems did this model have and what other things should I look out for? Thanks

I haven't kept up with what changed when, but any LX90 that's been well cared for should be just fine. I have one of the earlier LX90's and it's been trouble free from day one. There have only been minor changes over the years, changing the scope from one that's very easy to set up and use to one that's close to idiot proof. The most significant change was the introduction of improved coatings (UHTC) that gave a very slightly brighter image. As long as the scope is in good condition and the price is right, go for it, regardless of its particular features.

If you buy the LX90, make sure you read the manual carefully regarding set-up and use to avoid any silly mistakes. Lots of info is available on the Yahoo LX90 user group too.

As Tony said, there's not much of interest on the later LX90's apart from UHTC coatings (which are reputed to give about 15% more light transmission). The latest LX's come with LNT which has an inbuilt clock and magnetic north centre, neither of which are really necessary. It also has a red dot viewfinder which is extremely fragile and usually once broken never replaced. There is also a version which has inbuilt GPS, once again not necessary in normal use.

Well I brought it last night. Very happy with it all though I couldnt use it long (clouds always the way).

The LX90 should keep you happy for quite a while. No scope does everything but the LX90 does a hell of a lot. Try to learn the sky as you go so you're ready for the big dob when aperture fever hits:-)
