Hi,
Here's a few lightning shots from tonight of an approaching storm front.
The images were taken in video mode with my canon 1100D, they are a bit grainy, must get a lightning trigger one day.
Cheers,
Justin.
Nice work Justin.
No lightning trigger needed.
Just mount the camera on a tripod, set it to manual mode and select the longest shutter speed you can (30s I think).
You may need to pick an ISO/aperture combination that doesn't overexpose, particularly if there is street lighting nearby.
In a decently active storm you'll get many strikes in the one exposure, if it's a relatively quiet storm you might get a few shots with nothing, but eventually you'll get the money shot.
A cheap(~$15) chinese remote trigger/timer from ebay will let you expose for longer in bulb mode. I've often done 5min long lightning exposures.
Follow the link to a 30sec long shot I did without a trigger.

Thanks for that info Simon!
Checked out your images, wow!!!
I'll get some that good one day.
Cheers,
Justin.
Yep, just need to be in the right place at the right time.
That shot was a total fluke, no real skill involved.
It will be a looong time before I can match or better it.
