Saw this post on CloudyNights - LINK (http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=lx800%20recall&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cloudynights.c om%2Fubbthreads%2Fshowflat.php%2FCa t%2F0%2FNumber%2F5267013%2FMain%2F5 266930&ei=LqbXT9XCGNCgiQf0iqSPAw&usg=AFQjCNFBrBfyfS4vnHxsyFxev-HBeY51sw)

The Meade Website makes no mention of a recall, but all LX-800 items (apart from counterweights) are either on backorder or are not yet available (reducer).

Seems a bit strange to make an announcement like this on a forum and not your company website, but it looks like an established poster on CloudyNights (registered 12months ago) and is in the Vendor Announcements Section.

Any further news from anyone.

I so very nearly bought a LX800. But I read a lot of negative reviews about them.

With all the faults that people have been reporting about them, a recall doesn't seem out of the ordinary. But I have not heard anything about this.

Gday Dave

They mentioned it on their 4M website as well.
I suspect it was only done to dampen the spreading fires.
As far as i can tell to date, only a handful of people ever got LX800s
( i have only seen posts/references from 6 owners so far )
and it would appear all of those people were contacted directly,
hence no "need" to issue a recall notice.

Thought that might be the case Andrew. Did any actually make it to Oz?

The mount does look very similar to an AP - at least externally!

david i was talking to don at bintel couple of months ago re:lx800 and they were going to hold of getting any till they had setted down and sorted any hiccups out...looks like they have done the wright thing...(long way to post back)..

Sounds sensible - let the Yanks do the beta testing! Although on a mount of that price, the consumer shouldn't be doing the beta testing...

Gday David

Not unless Don got an early one and has squirrelled it away:D

A lot of people have said that.
Its certainly not an AP firmware wise.;)
