Rare opportunity in Perth

Hi all,

We recently came out of the recent storm without power for approx 30 hours and a rare opportunity came as a result. To see the Milky way dust lanes in a normally light polluted. Other than the damage this was one part of the storm that really came to head and a wonderful sight.

We have another storm front approaching and although I would like to see it again, I can't stand the wife and kids bickering over the fridge spoiling and the computers not working. :P

Same here, though there was enough power in neighbouring area's to not help me much with LP.
My girlfriend lives in Singleton and her power is still out, she reckons the sky looked great thru the gaps last night.

Tonights front is supposed to be more intense than Sunday's front :(

My neighbour had a large tree fall on their roof, FESA are overwhelmed so still haven't got to it. Hope it doesn't do too much more damage with tonights winds.

:) Lucky you , not many people get to see the milky way it is meant to be seen .
We get dark skies like that only 50km south of Darwin , and the first time I seen it I was speachless , I have seen dark sky before , but the lack of hills and total darkness :thumbsup: , stars from horizon to horizon and 360 degrees around has to be seen to be beileved .

Will have to wait till later tonight to see how the next front goes.
There was some good opportunities to see the milky way on Sunday due to large breaks in the weather. Maybe will get a chance to see more.

Winds on Sunday got up to 139kph so would be interesting to see how this could be worse. Hope not.

Where did it get to 139?
It only officially got to 117km/h in the Rocko area(Garden Island weather station), still nasty tho.
BOM is reporting triple figure gusts on Sunday as 119km/h at Mandurah and Rottnest Island, 106km/h at Jandakot and 100km/h at Ocean Reef.
Hoping the 125k gusts tonight are rare.

Unfortunately (or Fortunately, we have lot of pet fish) the power hasnt gone out here. The street lights will probably still be on during the storm...just my luck. I also dont think I would get much viewing opportunities either with this weather. I wonder how much dimmer Perth's light glow is at Tammin.

Looked outside the Metro area and found it.
139km/h gust at Cape Naturaliste @ 1.57pm Sunday. Barometer had dropped to 981.5 moments before.
Apparent temp was -5! thats some decent windchill!

Thanks for that, Looks like last nights weather was strong but a bit of a fizzer compared to Sunday, at least in my area. Would never have seen a repeat of Sunday anyway as there was total cloud cover.

A lot more rain last night though overflowed my gutters into the eaves.

Sundays weather was consider a "Bomb" as mentioned on Today Tonight due to a very quick and sudden drop in pressure which caused most of the weather violence.

Looked like a wild storm for sure. Apparently we in S.A are getting it coming across tonight. Not as bad though, winds around 95k's. We also had a nice clear view of the milkway last week when we were hoildaying in the Gawler Ranges. It's amazing :eyepop: isn't it, how much is out there. I thought our skies were good living in a town of 7000, 250 k's from Adelaide. Just a pity we didn't have room for 10inch dob in the car.
