I worked out a way to photograph it with my Lumix. I was looking at the eclipse glasses I have (from the 1999 WA annular - I tested them yesterday to make sure there were no holes by projecting the sun through on to a sheet of white paper - and had the sudden inspiration that they might be big enough to cover the camera lens. So with some fiddling and argy bargy, I have done it!

I do realise I am not going to have the most marvellous images, but I thought I might do a montage as it moves across and print myself a poster.

Image 1 is my highly technical setup - note the rubber bands from the bunches of asparagus we had for breakfast on Sunday. When the lens is zoomed out - it's not in this shot because the battery is on the charger - the glasses sit flush against the lens.

And image 2 is a test shot taken about 15 mins ago

It's very exciting - I can see it clearly through my little viewfinder!

Here it is - I've done a montage of 14 shots from lower right to lower left. I got the entry right on the edge but not quite right for the exit. I am doing one with times on it - this is the interim version.

And with the times added. I already sold 2 postcards and 2 posters of it on RedBubble (http://www.redbubble.com/people/analog6/works/8948213-transit-of-venus-once-in-a-lifetime) - a real thrill.

No, I made a mistake - stupid me. And I got my partner to proof read it for me too! Changed now to be correct.

Hey anoloag,
I had just the same idea(there is a saying about genius and idiots haveing the same idea!). The diferance is I used my IIS glasses and out of a full day of shooting managed only one image? So no montarge for me, but yes how a simple idea worked well.
