So.. what is there to do in dubbo except for the Western Plains Zoo?

My family and I are thinking of going to Dubbo for a holiday in October sometime.. we've been to the WPZoo once, about 4-5 years ago but didn't do anything else around the town. Only stayed for 2 nights.

We're thinking of staying for about 4 nights this time, and plan on visiting the zoo again for 2 of those days.. just wondered if there's enough other things to do around the town to do?

Suggestions welcome!

Cant think of anything else in Dubbo but it was 20+ years ago I was last there.

I used it as a centre for travelling to some interesting places, was a lot of driving back and forth - of course Coona/Siding Springs, Wellington Caves and old Stuart town. Drove home via Peak Hill and Parkes.

I have been to dubbo only once and it was a nightmare!
warning, do not drive there in an exotic car.... i went in a citroen, it broke down and because it was a citroen no one would touch it... an overnighter to go to the zoo ruined...
as it turned out it was just bad fuel.

but I plan on going agian soon, so i'll keep tuned to this thread for info.
i do recall a nice pizza place there, but i cant remember where exactly :)

there's dubbo observatory with a couple of C11 s but it will be the usual jewel box, omega centauri jupiter type sky tour so not all that exciting;
old dubbo gaol; and that's pretty much it from memory
but coonabarabran is not all that far away and that's worth a visit, both the warumbungles and siding springs observatory

How far to the warumbungles narayan?

How much further is Parkes out of the way for a drive past on the way home Chris?

I was in Dubbo a few years back for my brothers wedding and there is not a lot in the town itself. The best part was on the bus on the way to Dubbo we went past the parkes radio telescope. Didn't get to stop but looked really good.

I don't remember the distance as I wasn't driving. But from memory it wasn't all that long between Parkes and Dubbo. Maybe an hour? or less can't remember because I was reading a book on the bus.
