As is know to all, this June is going to foresee the Venus transits. As an international student in Adelaide, I would like to observe this magic phenomenon in Adelaide and referencing to my friend's observation in my homeland in the Northern Hemisphere to measure the distance between the Earth and the Sun, which is defined as 1 AU.

However, the climate in Adelaide usually brings much overcast or rain in winter, which indicates that my observation in Adelaide would probably be failed. Hence, I'm looking for someone in other cities to do this observation together. As a reward, I would be pleased to give him or her the parameters that my friends measured in my homeland in Northern Hemisphere.

The observor need to:
1. Give me the accurate geographic coordinates;
2. The time from internal ingress to external egress;
3. The time from internal egress to external egress.

Of course, I would definitely give you the parameters above that my friend get in Northern Hemisphere as well !
Thanks a lot!!!

Hey Beluga,

Thanks for your post.

This seems like a cool experiment. But before I go any futher, can you please explain the concepts:

I'm not sure of the concept, but I'll give it a shot of what I understood.

1) You wanna note down the time the 1st end of Venus touches (as in comes in front of) the Sun.
2) You then wanna note down the time when the other end of Venus touches the sun, as in fully in the Sun's sphere.
3) You then wanna note the time when the 1st end starts to get out of the other end of the Sun's sphere, as in when Venus's 1st end touches the 2nd end of the Sun
4) Then you wanna note down the time when the 2nd end of Venus touches the 2nd end of the Sun's sphere.

I hope I got this right. Sorry if its too layman.. I'm new :P
Thanks
Kman

Hi Kman

I'm sorry that I'm not good at English..so..I'm not sure I can explain in text clearly. Would you plz to email me: williamcaicb@hotmail.com, so that I could get your emial address and I could reply you a figure to illustrate which of the time that need to be measured. This might me easier for me to describe. Also, I could email you the method to calculate to the distance between the Earth and the Sun.

In addition, please never say yourself a layman:) Practise makes perfect;)
You are gonna make a lot of improvements after this Venus Transit:thumbsup:

Cheers!

Thanks a lot Kman!

Here is a website about weather, which is a crucial factor for observation.
