Jupiter x 3 from Brisbane, 10th April.

Here is a Jupiter sequence spanning the period 22:35, 23:36 and 23:59 AEST captured on 10th April 2006 from Brisbane, Australia.

Equipment:
Celestron C9.25, Televue x2.5 Powermate
Philips ToUcam 840K

Capture:
K3CCDTools, 10fps, 1/25 sec.

Processing:
Registax for processing the avi’s.
Mosaic created in Corel PhotoPaint 12.

The seeing varied quite considerably throughout the observing session. Earlier in the evening, high power views of the gibbous Moon revealed high frequency poor seeing interspersed with breathtaking moments of incredible detail. Later, for the Jupiter images, the seeing had changed with the disc oscillating like one of those stress balls, with occasional moments of good seeing.

Dennis, I love your shots as they are colour and size balanced just right for me. I took some shots Sat night but havn't had time to process them. The GRS had disappeared by the time I got to it along with bad seeing. I took the liberty to crop your photo and invert it and then used it for 3D viewing [a la cross eyed method]. Gives a perfect 3D image.

Dennis, you've been quiet for a while, but when you speak it speaks volumes :eyepop: :thumbsup: . Beautiful shots crammed with subtle cloud banding detail and swirls.

Thank you everyone for your feedback and complements. The poor weather has kept me and my gear indoors, so over the last couple of nights/mornings, I’ve trashed myself by staying up to chase the seeing.

The avi’s from 10th April seem quite watery, almost like paintings by the impressionists. I had the following settings:

Brightness: 50%
Gamma: 00
Gain: 20%

The histogram graph/bar in K3CCDTools was hovering quite consistently between 215 and 225 and yet I’ve still managed to get some hot spots that are washed out. Looking at the K3CCDTools display, I figured that what I was acquiring would not be worth saving. It wasn’t until I pumped one of the avi’s through Registax that the reasonably decent results became apparent.

Gee, there is so much to learn in this game; managing tiredness, optimizing capture settings for the seeing, reading the local conditions, tuning the gear, etc.
