Our Galaxy as it might appear edge on from (much) further out.
15mm f/3.5 Canon EOS 600D. Stars removed with Star Tools.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Good try Tom, but the first one does nothing for me
Cheers

Yup, nicely done but I can't stop the feeling with almost all starless images that I'm looking at the MS Paint spray can of colour on a black background rather than something astronomical.

Guess it's just a preference thing.
Cheers,
Cam

I love the way the all the dust stands out in the starless image. :)

Thanks for each of the comments. My attempt at this was inspired by looking at edge on galaxies like NGC 4013 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_4013)and NGC 891 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_891). I could never really picture the Milky Way as a galaxy until I had seen the likes of those.

Cheers,

Tom

Clever idea Tom, after we see something not totally disimilar looking out to galaxies like NGC 253, etc
