I guess I will add mine to the stock - and why not, you can photograph it for something like 6 hours straight per night!

Peter Ward mentioned that this area was more striking when imaged using narrowband filters. Like so many of these bland patches of space, they take on a whole new look with Ha, OIII and SII filters in play.

I hope you like this

about 13 hours, FSQ106N and SBIG STL11K.

Martin,

Wonderful image, but how do people accumulate 13 hours of data - sorry it may be a stupid question.

Do you do it over a few years? Do you image both sides of the meridian? And, or do you simply bang away at it night after night until your satisfied with the datas detail?

6 hours a night?

Thanks Martin,

Steve

Good morning everyone and once again, thanks very much for the feedback.

Steve - if this were a high resolution image, then I doubt that 6 hours a night would be achievable, but at 3.5 asp, you can image a little bit lower than you normally would.

NGC 6188 is rising and at 50 degs altitude by 10pm and at 50 degs altitude and setting by 4am at my latitude - that is a good 6 hours of data!

of course, NB images should never really be discussed in terms of 'minutes of exposure' but in terms of hours of exposure, particularly at longer focal lengths.

How much is enough? When SNR is significantly greater than 1.

That's just superb Martin....(and affirms my thoughts of having wasted time on RGB instead of imaging this amazing region of the sky in NB  )

Just delightful! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Just sublime. The contrast between the sunburnt oranges and bright blues is so smooth on the eye. Enjoyed this one so much, thank you Martin.

Cracking image Martin. I had a go at the PN last year in LRGB but now I will do this at some point in NB.

Superb Martin. The best I've seen of this one.

Interesting that those twisted knots are hot in S11 as they are often shown as red in HaLRGB shots.

This colour palette really suits this object which is usually just mostly red otherwise.

Greg.

I hope that I can get up to speed one day and produce images as good as these Martin. I notice how you have cunningly framed to get all the brighter regions in. I never see my fellow imagers as competition. They give me inspiration to do better.

Thank you Bert

I have been watching your RH progress with interest, and I am sure it will produce great images once you have it sorted out.

If its any consolation, I had my first RC for over 12 months, constantly fighting something wrong with it, before finally sending it back and changing the tube version out for the truss version. Some of the problems disappeared after that, many remained and I continued to fight and fix them for a further 12 months after that.....and these scopes are supposed to be the best Ritchey Chreteins on the market. Hmmm.

Good luck.
