An enjoyable read.

In Star Trek lore, the first Starship Enterprise will be built by the year 2245. But today, an engineer has proposed — and outlined in meticulous detail – building a full-sized, ion-powered version of the Enterprise complete with 1G of gravity on board, and says it could be done with current technology, within 20 years.

That would be soooo cool. Don't be surprised if Richard Branson announces intentions to run with it
I'd buy tickets :)

I'll volunteer my services as an on-board Technician.:D
It would beat fixing machines down here on earth.
I dont think I would like to sit on top of a Nuclear Reactor though.

I want to be in on celestial cartography and using the scopes. I volunteer for that.

Energy shielding looks odd to me too. Would the maths work on those separations and the figures listed?

Always thought it was a bad design for a starship he should build a battlestar instead

What a grand feat for the planet that would be, because no one country could ever afford to do it on their own.

"There's Klingons on the starboard bow, starboard bow"

It still wont be any good to us until Dr Cochrane invents the warp drive and does a test run in 2063. Until then it would still only be a satellite.
